Rabbit ears

With the Super Bowl coming up, I realized that I don’t have a way to watch it since canceling YouTube TV last year. Even though I don’t care a lot about the NFL, the Super Bowl is one of those moments that I like to stay tuned into just for cultural literacy and mozzarella sticks.

At a recent meeting of my book club several of the guys mentioned that they had HD antennas. I was intrigued enough to buy one, and I hooked it up tonight.

What followed is the absolute weirdest combination of shows and channels known to man. Theres a channel showing 1960s Batman reruns, one showing the old Square Pegs show, one showing Walker, Texas Ranger and a channel devoted to informercials. I saw weird off-brand news networks, z-tier college football and, worst of all, Walker, Texas Ranger.

It’s fascinating to me that this stuff is getting pushed out over the airwaves, all around us, all the time. My innards are being ever baked by Chuck Norris digitized to bits in the invisible ether of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Anyway, the thing’s pretty cool, and I don’t have to give Comcast or YouTube any more money, so we’ll call it a win. Now off to watch 24 hours of The Beverly Hillbillies being broadcast by… someone.
