Headed up to Charlotte on Thursday to see Craig Finn and Bully open for The Mountain Goats. I’ve seen Finn with The Hold Steady numerous times (er, like six times last year, but who’s counting) but this will be my first solo show. I was supposed to see him in Nashville a year or so ago but someone in the band caught Covid, as was the style at the time.

I had the great fortune to hang out with Craig and the rest of The Hold Steady at the Punk Rock Museum in Vegas back in October, and it was a night I won’t forget. Great conversations with the guys in the band, with great stories from Craig about the sordid and fascinating history of punk rock and his perspective on it.

Give him a spin, if you’re interested. He had a new album last year called “A Legacy of Rentals” that I can’t recommend highly enough. Here’s are a couple of favorites from it:

Last thing, and then I’ll shut up, is Craig’s podcast, “That’s How I Remember It,” which is a great series of interviews with interesting people about memory and its ephemerality. Super stuff.
