I picked up a record at Half-Price Books a couple of weeks ago, and it has a surprising history. It’s the soundtrack to a 1978 movie called “FM that was, by all accounts, a huge flop. The movie starred Martin Mull, Eileen Brennan, Cleavon Little and other contemporary comedians, and has been mostly forgotten.

The soundtrack, on the other hand, is something else. As befits a 1970s movie about FM DJs, it’s a two-record affair with a far-flung list of artists ranging from Steely Dan (with an original, eponymous song) to Billy Joel to Boston to Eagles to Boz Scaggs. For such a forgotten movie, it may be the most stacked soundtrack album I’ve ever seen.

Apparently it was pretty well-known at the time and sold more than a million copies, but I’d never heard of it. It was ten bucks used and even includes an old poster from the movie. Fun find.
